EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR THE RICH .

Over the last few days education systems in the country have been stormed with surprises in the name of reforms. This is after the approval of the education task force recommendations to the president.

According to the recommendation, the general sponsorship of all the students admitted to both public and private institutions has been scrapped off. The government has introduced a new financing model based on one's ability to pay the school fee. The parents will now be expected to part with unexpected amounts for their children to sail through University Education. The government will only offer scholarships to the students admitted at Public institutions while those in private are left to manuvre on their own being left with the option of applying for only government loans.

In the recent remarks by The Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Machongu, all the candidates who scored C+ and above will have a chance to apply and Join the University of their choice. Through the KUCCPS portal one will be able to view the courses offered by institutions accompanied by their respective tuition fee. He further claimed that this academic year, the government will only offer scholarships to 45000 students out of over 173,000 students who scored C+ and above in 2022 KCSE. This scholarship will be offered to those who are from impoverished and needy backgrounds. The rest will be left to gamble over the government's loan.

Those from the poor will receive a maximum of 53 % scholarship and a maximum of 40 % High Education Loan. The fees have been to be very high according to sources revealed to the media. For example in one academic year, if one needs to study medicine atUoN or Kenyatta University, one will need to part with over 600,000 kshs. Assume by any chance one gets the upper limits to both the loan and the scholarship, he will still need to dig deep down the pockets so that they might clear the school fee for the year. Now, the fact is that the cost of living in any institution is more high than the cost of education hence after paying the school fee it will be hard for one to be sustained in school due to the high cost of living.

Many who will fail to fall under the 45,000 lot and are not well off financially may fail to achieve their goals of joining the dream campus. The government has not given out the indicators of baking poor. Education which was very cheap for one to acquire has now become the most expensive commodity to be sought. With 160,000ksh one could complete his 4 yr course in a public institution. However, with the new system in place, the amount cannot even pay for the cheapest degree course in one academic year.

The majority of the students who had hopes of furthering their studies now have lost hope in the system. For those from marginalized communities and low-income areas, education degrees will be a nightmare to them. Education is now becoming a dare for poor residents. Unless a community decides on a merry-go-round for one student after every 4 years, the rich will have it all while the low class will just have to watch on TV and social media as their counterparts are graduating and being crowned for achieving in their education.
